The Start of a Life Change

Over the past year and half, I have started a life change. If you know me, then you know I didn't really have a choice. Here is my blog about my journey. My hope is that I can help others who have gone through similar experiences.

My new journey started in 2012. Many may say my health issues started because of the drastic changes I went through but I still have the verdict out there. In the summer of 2012, Kris and I were relocated to Kansas City. We both needed a change and we thought starting over would be exactly what we needed. I also hung up my whistle and said goodbye to teaching.

In the fall of 2012, I started realizing the pain in my right side of my abdomen was not normal. Of course, where do you go to when you are sick? The doctor. ( I am not discrediting doctors. I could never do what they do but sometimes it is okay to get a few different opinions.) I visited just a normal medical doctor. I had an ultra sound, a ct scan, you name it. Nothing showed up. Originally I got diagnosed with IBS and was given multiple antibiotics. They did not seem to do the trick so I went back to the doctor. The doctor got to the point where they pretty much told me the pain was "in my head".

Well around this same time, I met Julie. Julie could describe my pain as if it was her own. I found out she did have the exact same pain! She referred me to her doctor. Her doctor was a certified chiropractor and kinesiologist. In December of 2012, I went to her doctor for the first time and was diagnosed with  Ileocecal Valve Syndrome or better known as "closed valve".

Finally, I had my first "real" diagnosis. Based on what the doctor told me, I would have to limit gluten, soy, and dairy in my diet. I always said I would start eating better when the doctor told me I had to. ( I never thought I would be told at the age of 24.)

Now for the past year, I have been going through the struggles of food sensitivities and the battle of trying to stay healthy. I know this is just a preview but I wanted to give some background to my journey.
